How wearing a mask and these 7 other solutions can get us back to enjoying live events!

People want to find some form of normality after having concerts and events wiped off their calendar this summer. As event producers and consultants, we feel that pain and can’t wait until we are able to gather again in a safe and controlled way. One way we can all do our part is by wearing a mask. If everyone would agree to wear a mask to events, this would significantly cut down the chances of people in attendance transmitting or catching COVID-19 (or any other virus for that matter). Also think about all of the cool new artist merch that will be out...I can’t wait to get my Guns N’ Roses tour mask! Here are 7 other solutions that will get us back to enjoying shows in a safe and controlled environment.

Force majeure is the legal clause that is brought up the most by event planners when discussing contracts. On almost every event/artist contract, there is a form of force majeure built into the contract but what does it actually mean and how does it protect you against COVID19 cancellations?

Any event planned to occur in the next six to eighteen months (at the time of writing this) is at risk of cancellation.

For some time, event managers have been purchasing insurance plans to minimize their risk in the event that something like this happens, but insurance companies are not built to pay out. Since the SARS outbreak of 2002/2003, insurance companies have been carefully writing epidemics out of their coverage, even as it applies to the force majeure clause so assuming that this “term” is covering you. Well...it’s not a guarantee.

The team at Trixstar has been hard at work developing event concepts and guidelines to produce safe events amidst this ongoing pandemic. In these unprecedented times, we are striving to go above and beyond industry standards and set a new bar to ensure we protect our colleagues, stakeholders, artists and attendees. Enhanced measures aim to provide everyone with assurance and confidence that our events have health and safety as the number one priority. In order to do this (or get approval to put on the events in the first place) everyone must work collaboratively to ensure the biosafety measures that we have put in place are practical, effective and considered best practice for the industry.

No matter the size of your event, the show advance is your opportunity to solve potential issues before they occur while at the same time taking care of as many details as possible so that you are free to deal with any unforeseen circumstances as they arise. A well thought out and detailed show advance will put you in the best position for a smooth and hassle free show day, as long as you follow through on what was agreed upon. Here are some things to consider when advancing an event with multiple acts, possibly over multiple days.

COVID-19 has caused events all around the world to postpone, reschedule or even cancel. As experienced event producers, we always want to try to minimize risks as much as possible, but events can be an inherently risky business even in the best of times. High risk, high reward tends to be the name of the game and are you really an event producer if you haven’t dealt with some form of major event disruption in your career?

In these trying times, many event producers have become all too familiar with the process of postponing, rescheduling or cancelling an event. Due to the massive disruptions caused by COVID-19, there are some event professionals who are learning in a trial-by-fire situation on the processes and anxieties involved. Trixstar has (fortunately?) dealt with our fair share of major event disruptions over the years which has helped us navigate these challenging times for ourselves and our clients. These types of situations can be very fluid and happen within a matter of minutes, hours, days, weeks or months, but whether the disruptions are because of logistics, severe weather, the venue, ticket sales, talent related or even a pandemic - many of the same principles apply
